N = 28 patients were admitted to hospital for a major cardiovascular-related event. Higher total treatment dose (p < 0.05), concomitant hypertension (p = 0.005), diabetes (p = 0.04), atrial fibrillation (p = 0.03), and lack of use of statin therapy (p = 0.03) were key contributors to hospital admission. Conclusions: Results of our study highlight the fact that patients with concomitant baseline cardiovascular disease/risk factors are at an increased risk of cardiovascular hospitalization related to bevacizumab treatment. Careful baseline cardiovascular assessment may be an essential step to minimize cardiovascular complications.]]> Wed 26 Oct 2022 13:22:56 AEDT ]]> Impact of new International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) diagnostic criteria on perinatal outcomes in a regional tertiary hospital in New South Wales, Australia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33815 Wed 19 Jan 2022 15:18:50 AEDT ]]> The Dilemma of Reconstructive Material Choice for Orbital Floor Fracture: A Narrative Review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51659 Wed 13 Sep 2023 10:02:28 AEST ]]> Impact of socioeconomic status and road distance to hospital on perforated appendicitis rates at a large rural referral centre https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52531 Wed 13 Mar 2024 07:45:44 AEDT ]]> Adolescent gallstones: need for early intervention in symptomatic idiopathic gallstones https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36805 Tue 07 Jul 2020 10:16:45 AEST ]]> Patient populations at risk for intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:15479 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:19:01 AEDT ]]> The difficult Le Fort I osteotomy and downfracture: a review with consideration given to an atypical maxillary morphology https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5083 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:48:47 AEDT ]]> Complications of spinal diagnostic and treatment procedures https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5055 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:48:44 AEDT ]]> Differential expression of pyloric atresia in junctional epidermolysis bullosa with ITGB4 mutations suggests that pyloric atresia is due to factors other than the mutations and not predictive of a poor outcome: three novel mutations and a review of the literature https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:4993 A/3111-1G>A. Two cases had no gastrointestinal symptoms or signs of PA. PA is an inconstant feature of the subtype of epidermolysis bullosa known as JEB-PA. It is most likely that multiple factors influence the development of PA and its presence is not predictive of a poor outcome. It is possible that institutions that do not routinely screen immunofluorescence mapping for integrin α6β4 staining in the absence of PA are missing this form of epidermolysis bullosa.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:44:15 AEDT ]]> Lower preoperative quality of life increases postoperative risk of adverse events in women with endometrial cancer: results from the LACE trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:27255 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:29:12 AEDT ]]> Factors associated with 28-day hospital readmission after stroke in Australia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28765 P<0.15 or if considered clinically important and readmission status. Results: Among 3328 patients, 6.5% were readmitted within 28 days (mean age, 75; 48% female; 92% ischemic). After bivariate analyses 14/43 factors from 4/5 categories were associated with readmission after hospitalization for stroke. Two factors from patient and health outcome categories remained independently associated with readmission after multivariable analyses. These were dependent premorbid functional status (adjusted odds ratio, 1.87; 95% confidence interval, 1.25–2.81) and having a severe adverse event during the initial hospitalization for stroke (adjusted odds ratio, 2.81; 95% confidence interval, 1.55–5.12). Conclusions: This is the first study to comprehensively evaluate factors associated with 28-day readmission after stroke. The factors associated with 28-day readmission are diverse and include potentially modifiable and nonmodifiable factors.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:24:50 AEDT ]]> Bleeding after cardiac surgery is associated with an increase in the total cost of the hospital stay https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39001 P < .001), thus resulting in a median increase in costs (in Australian dollars) of $33,338 (confidence interval, $21,943-$38,415). Several baseline characteristics were strongly associated with a bleeding event. Conclusions: The impact of a bleeding event on the cost of cardiac surgery is substantial. This study identified a set of risk factors for bleeding that could be used to identify patients for discussion at the heart team level, where measures to minimize the risk of transfusion may be initiated.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:47:12 AEDT ]]> Comparison of postoperative complications between open and laparoscopic appendectomy: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41100 Mon 25 Jul 2022 10:38:22 AEST ]]> Death following pulmonary complications of surgery before and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51092 Mon 21 Aug 2023 11:21:45 AEST ]]> Temporal trends in diabetic ketoacidosis at diagnosis of paediatric type 1 diabetes between 2006 and 2016: results from 13 countries in three continents https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44181 Mon 10 Oct 2022 10:48:25 AEDT ]]> The effects of a standardized nursing intervention model on immobile patients with stroke: a multicenter study in China https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46522 Fri 25 Nov 2022 09:26:26 AEDT ]]> Systematic review with meta-analysis: autoimmune hepatitis in pregnancy https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48637 Fri 24 Mar 2023 13:23:48 AEDT ]]> Delayed Bleeding After Endoscopic Resection of Colorectal Polyps: Identifying High-Risk Patients https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48097 Fri 24 Feb 2023 15:31:00 AEDT ]]> Technical Success, Sample Adequacy, and Complications of Pediatric Transjugular Liver Biopsy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54853 Fri 15 Mar 2024 17:15:51 AEDT ]]> Improving the aesthetic outcome with burr hole cover placement in chronic subdural hematoma evacuation-a retrospective pilot study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35053 Fri 14 Jun 2019 14:22:59 AEST ]]>
